F ounded in 1995, Mercy Heart has been there for families making adjustments when loved ones are incarcerated.
Matthew 9:36 says, "When He say the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were distressed and helpless."
Mercy Heart is a vision born out of a need for the church to respond to the broken, discarded, wounded families and individuals in the crisis of incarceration. These are an unseen, largely ignored sub-culture of our society . . . those who exist just below the visible surface of society, in the shadows of our society. Without the hope of the gospel and inspiration of a personal physical touch they will pass without notice into the darkness of fear, loneliness and shame. But Mercy Heart – called by one, the “machine of faith deliverers” – has stood in the gap. Since 1995 it has shared the hope of the gospel and sent precious “deliverers” into this shadow-culture with one message —
”GOD LOVES YOU! WE LOVE YOU!”
We believe God is guiding us to move forward in faith to extend this ministry beyond our city. Why? First of all God has been maturing this vision in us. It has stood the test of time and value. Second, God has been maturing us in preparation. After years of ministry, we’re hopefully wiser, better focused, more decisive, and more determined. Someone has said, “There is a correlation between the preparation [for the task] and the magnitude of the task to which we are [commissioned].” Finally, God has been at work behind the scenes and chosen this moment in time to reveal His will for a new day – that Mercy Heart extend its reach to other communities around Fort Worth, Texas and beyond.
